Ecstatic Dance on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 6pm with Danny Waddell

Event Description

Ecstatic Dance Honoka‘a is back with another special Saturday Evening Dance on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

We invite you to move with us on “Honoka‘a Green & Gold Day” as we celebrate Spring Equinox and promote Hō‘ā & Hāmākua Harvest’s Aloha ‘Āina Spring Equinox Planting (Sunday, March 19), and Hawai‘i Farmer’s Union United.

Facilitating this dance, we’re honored to host one of the Big Island’s dance music pioneers, Odysseus.

From what we gather, Odysseus has something very unique planned for us, as he will be accompanied by special guests performing alongside him during his set. Joining him for this dance are Samantha Smith, Marika Ripke, Hayden Spector, and Michael Drummer.

We can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve!

Danny Waddell is a seasoned DJ and event producer who made Hawai‘i his home in 2014 after spending decade in Orlando, Florida, and growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. He also happens to be one part of the creative team that hosts the current iteration of Ecstatic Dance Honoka‘a events.

Danny’s journey as a DJ started nearly three decades ago. He cut his teeth in the Atlanta rave scene during the 90s, refined and honed his skills in the Orlando club circuit in the 2000s and 2010s. In 2019 he felt an internal shift towards the artform of constructing Ecstatic Dance sets. Since then, he has immersed himself in the world of conscious and global dance music. His sets are not bound by genre; they are guided by the intention of exploring humanity, empathy, and the full spectrum of emotions. Danny has a passion for all forms of dance music and believes that when fueled by purposeful intention: music, movement, and dance can connect us to deeper parts of our consciousness and can be powerful tools for discovery, healing, and transformation.

Danny is excited to share his findings for this Ecstatic Dance and offer a set that is intended to captivate the mind, body, and the soul.

Diana Hahn (Yoga)

Diana Hahn

Diana Hahn found asana, mindfulness, and breath in 2006. She has cultivated joy and gratitude, practicing vinyasa, ashtanga, and restorative yoga through injuries, pregnancies, births, deaths, and rebirths of mind, body, and spirit.

She bows deeply to her teachers—Cathy Louise Broda, Brynne Caleda, and Annie Carpenter—who gifted Diana with a practice, on and beyond, the mat, and the tools to share yoga with others. Over the years, she has taught students ages four to 80 in California and Hawaiʻi.

Her practice includes alignment, flow, turning mind off and body/heart/breath on, playing the edge, backing away from it, dialing the heat up, dialing it down, and sinking into a good, long savasana. Diana currently cultivates a home practice and teaches occasionally on Hawaiʻi Island.
